Morine Washington is a professional caregiver who joined Family & Nursing Care Classic’s registry in 2010. Originally from a small town in Jamaica, Morine was born with an enthusiasm and love for each day that helps guide her in this profession.
Morine’s passion for serving older adults stems from her childhood where she grew up in the same household as her grandmother. The two of them developed a close bond and Morine was always drawn to caring for her grandmother, even at the young age of seven. It was through this relationship that she developed her approach to caregiving – she strives to treat each of her clients as if they were family members.
Determined to develop a close connection with each of her clients, Morine believes it’s important to bring an upbeat attitude each day, which is something that comes naturally to her as a bubbly person. One way she tries to do this is how she helps dress her clients. She’ll often go to their closet and pick clothes that are similar to what she is wearing so they can be “twinning,” which makes the clients laugh.
Morine believes love and patience are the cornerstones of her caregiving business. She prioritizes creating strong connections with her clients. Clients may not always be feeling their best, so she takes her time with them and tries to find ways to put a smile on their faces.
One item that Morine is especially proud of is her status as a published author of her own memoir. A few years ago, Morine developed a close bond with one of her clients who was a writer. Morine shared with the client about her life. The client, who unfortunately was not in good enough health to write a book about Morine herself, made Morine promise that she would write one about her journey from a small town in Jamaica to where she is today. Morine kept her promise and her memoir was published in 2024, A Rose from Olive River.
