Joycelin Smith Henry has been a Caregiver with Family & Nursing Care Select since August 2023. Originally from Jamaica, her approach to caregiving is deeply rooted in faith and an innate desire to serve others. She finds immense fulfillment in her work, striving to leave a smile on her clients’ faces, ensuring their satisfaction, and ultimately making a positive impact on their lives.
A recent favorite memory for Joycelin is of a client with Parkinson’s disease whose faith and resilience inspired her profoundly. While the client often had a hard time finding words, when they spoke about their faith, it lit up the room and was invigorating to Joycelin. She says the client’s compelling and sincere description of their own faith journey would motivate anyone to want to be a better person.
Drawing from her experiences, Joycelin offers valuable advice to fellow Caregivers by emphasizing the importance of patience, empathy, and seeing a person beyond their condition. She advocates for the STOP approach – “See The Other Person” – as a guiding principle in caregiving to foster meaningful connections and provide holistic support.
Outside of her work life, Joycelin enjoys spending time with her family and participating in church activities. Understanding that caregiving can be emotional and challenging, she prioritizes her own well-being by maintaining a healthy lifestyle, managing stress through meditation, and staying connected to her faith.
